Amazing Scratch-built Model of the 18thC French Navy ship of the line “Superbe”
Superbe was a French Navy Téméraire class 74 gun ship of the line, which had a copper sheathed hull and launched in 1784. By 1787, Superbe was the flagship of the Escadre d'évolution under Nieuil, however in 1795, she took part in the Croisière du Grand Hiver ("Campaign of the Great Winter"), where she sank due to a leak.
The wooden model is in fine fettle with a great patina, it’s incredibly
detailed with complete rigging, reefed sails, open gun ports and deck furniture with boats. It has its own purpose built stand and measures 66cm high x 80cm long.
It’s now on display in one of my shops at the Antiques Village Nr Hele, Exeter.
