Beautiful Leather Cased 19thC Gilt Pocket Barometer by Ross Ltd, London.
This is in fine fettle and in working condition, it’s made by the world famous Ross Ltd of London (Est 1830), originally making Optical lenses for early cameras and then on to telescopes, binoculars and scientific instruments for the public and Royal Navy.
This particular one comes with its original Oxblood leather clad case with working clasp and aubergine velvet & silk liner. The 2” gilt case of the
barometer has a worn patina and is fitted with a ring to attach it to a pocket watch Albert chain. The glass front rotates to adjust the predicted height above sea level and the back pops off to reveal the mechanism which looks clean.
