Rare French Solid Marble & Brass Charles Hour Art Deco Clock for Hamilton & Co Ltd of Calcutta.
Robert Hamilton (1772-1848) opened his 1st Jewellery and Silversmithing shop in 1808 under licence from the East Indian Company in Calcutta, India. They remained in India until 1973 when they finally closed the doors earning the nickname “Garrards of India”.

Co also opened branches in other parts of India including Bombay (1836 and 1868), Delhi and Simla in 1865
This timepiece would of been made in France c.1920 at the height of the Art Deco period by the famous French clock maker Charles Hour, with makers marks to the jewelled mechanism and brass clock stand. The marble face is framed by a gilt chapter ring marked with “Hamilton & Co, Calcutta, Delhi & Simla” & “Made in France”.
It is completely original and in very good condition with the odd slight imperfection & patina commensurate with its age & use, it works well keeping good time and has all the correct original controls to the solid brass back. It measures 8” x 8” x 5” deep when the stand is extended.
