Rare WW2 Admiralty Pattern Royal Navy Convoy Zig Zag Clock by Mercer (c.1939-40)
This amazing original zig zag clock was used onboard RN ships, in convoy, to confuse the Kriegsmarine U-boat packs in the Artic, Atlantic & Mediterranean during the two world wars.
This
fabulous timepiece is from WW2 being made in and around 1939/40, the 7” clockface with its great looking patina retains its original indicator ring, inner wiring & exterior connectors. This would have be used to precisely change the ship & convoys course at a specific time pre-designated by the Admiralty prior to sailing. The face has the mechanism trademark “Octo” & “Mercer, St Albans” who were specialists in electrical master contact clocks.
The fully working 8 day mechanism by Octo is housed in its original solid brass case which has the RN Admiralty Pattern No W6578 & Serial No M.V 105 stamped to the door rim. It’s also well presented on a blackened Oak wall mount and comes with a key.
These with indicator rings easily fetch £1300-£1500 so grab a bargain whilst it’s available.
