An Original Victorian Embroidered Kings Own Crossed Colours and Battle Honours Standard
This beautiful embroidery is for the IV Royal Infantry Regiment of Foot (The King’s Own - Royal Lancaster Regiment) and has been embroidered in silver bullion/braid and silk thread. It shows a very looking rampant Lion, the Regimental emblem which appears on the cap badge, this is above the crossed Regimental Colours with the legend below "The KING’S OWN REGIMENTAL COLOURS AND BADGE"
This dates from around 1880, as the last battle honours represented are the Abyssinia (1868) War and the Zulu (South Africa) War of 1879. The silk embroidery remains nice and fresh, except for the blue that has faded on the Union flag in silver, but the white and red contrast nicely.
The overall condition is extremely good, because it has been mounted, framed and glazed.
