Stunning French Marble Based Bronzed Sculptural Mantel Clock by Geo Maxim (c.1910)
Georges Maxim (1885-1940) was a french sculptural artist who was most prevalent between 1910-35, his various sculptures in multi-metal medium including bronzes, particularly Art Deco statues are very sought after and can be found predominantly on marble or part of timepieces with garnitures.
This
particular clock is titled “ Amour Printanier” which translates to “Spring Love” and has a bronze cartouche to the front of the bevelled marble base with the artist name.
A bronzed cherub is mounted to the right with its arms framing the clock face, the french 8 day mechanism is encased within a decorative casting, which has an Art Nouveau feel to it.
The clock runs perfectly and has a porcelain gilt framed clock face with a Roman numeral chapter ring which has the odd minor imperfection and wear commensurate with its age & use. It measures 10” W x 6”D x 13”H and sits on 4 brass height adjustable feet.
